We all know Kylie cant sing; the songs arent too bad,particularly the latter ones – so we might just as well look at her.
And thats what this DVD is all about, as the pint-sized Pop Princessreleases a visual companion forUltimate Kylie CD.
Theres never been anything spectacular about Kylies music, and this DVD ofher promotional videos is no exception. Its not groundbreaking or eveninfluential but very entertaining. The visual content adequately followsthe styles of the day in terms of production through to hair and clothing.Initial video shoots were filmed in Australia.
Waterfronts, skylines andscrapers, supposedly show her indigenous surroundings. These earlyencounters have a distinct lack of camera chemistry, though later, probablyas she had more artistic involvement, she becomes a master at it. Her girlieNeighbourspersona took some time to shake off. The turning point appearsaround the time she hits our shores. The transformation from pussycat to sexsiren happens almost overnight between January and May 1990.
She perilously tried the Pre-Raphaelite on Where The Wild Roses Grow, andvamping it up on Did It Again, which didnt work during her mid 90s slump.As we know, it was spectacular return to form in 2000 with those famous goldhot pants on Spinning Around, and she continues to go forward. The camerachemistry has now brought a renewed sexuality and style, which she uses toher commercial advantage which can be seen on the 2002 BRITS performance.
The much anticipated new single, I Believe In You, released Dec 6th,is a rather insipid effort which will probably bolster the sales of this DVDin the Christmas run in.
As more and more nightclubs veer towards the use of rolling video images tomatch the music, this is perfect DJ fodder. Then theres the kids part tothink about – and maybe a few dads as well!

Elly Roberts passed away in 2011, but he was a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
