Never say never is the name of the game in showbiz.

The most famous wig and legs are back, like they’ve never been away.

Tina Turner’s tubes are back in action, caught live before a reputed 70,000 crowd at the magnificent climate -controlled Gelredome football stadium, in Arnhem Holland in March this year.

This tour, announced as her 50th anniversary concert, saw Ike’s ex turn on the style again, rolling back the years with a set full of mostly hits.Leggy Anna Mae Bullock was always a great entertainer and crowd pleaser, so this show is no exception. Conceived by her, her high standards are stamped from start to finish. This is Pop meets Hollywood at its best.

The DVD, filmed in HD and mixed in 5.1 surround sound, catches the Queen of Modern Soul strutting her stuff to her adoring Dutch fans in a show that lasted an exhausting two hours. The CD is a cropped version of 15 songs from the DVD’s 20.

Age has been kind to her – she looks in great shape (the cheeks a bit puffier maybe) and the moves are still there. And those pegs. How many 69 year-olds do you know with legs like that? There’s plenty of hot girlie dancers in hot pants for you fellas to ogle at – not that I’m looking of course!

After a blistering start – Steamy Windows and Typical Male she’s astonished by the reaction. “Wow ! Hi everybody,” she says, with a huge and appreciative smile. She goes on, “ Is everybody alright? I think so. It’s absolutely wonderful seeing all of you out there,“ blowing a kiss to the throng. “What do I have for you this evening? The show is a recap of the work I’ve done in the past. And er, I want you to have a good time.”And she’s off – River Deep, Mountain High brings shrieks of delight.

After bouts of strutting and shimmying on What You See Is What You Get she belts out smash hit Better Be Good To Me. The pace is unrelenting.

After a snappy costume change we get ballsy Acid Queen, then she slips into her 80s renaissance hit What’s Love Got To Do With It. I won’t mention the legs at this stage…oops! Red mini- dress at nearly 70 – impossible, unless you’re Tina Turner. “I don’t know. What do you think?” she teases, obviously directed at the fellas. The song sounds better than the original as well, with massive chunk of audience participation.Stylishly choreographed and costumes, We Don’t Need Another Hero turns out to be a showstopper.

Soon after we get a medley that includes a seated set, covering The Beatles’ Help! as a ballad, and what was to become her 80s revival single Let’s Stay Together.Back on the rock angle, she belts out two Stones classics before hitting Bond’s Golden Eye accompanied by superb dance routines as she reveals herself from an enormous eye above the stage.

It was only a matter of time before her signature tune emerged, the raunchy The Best with the crowd having that good time she promised.Covering CCR’s Proud Mary wasn’t a good choice on record in my opinion, but she’s transformed it here into a Southern Blues ballad, which explodes at the end.

Again, from seeing live Nutbush City Limits in the past, this time proves too frenetic for its own good, while our Tina embarks on walking on a suspended thrust over the crowd. Before closing with ballad Be Tender With Me, she quips, “Wow! Did you have a good time?”

I think you know the answer.

The verdict – Last of the greats.
