Mike Perham takes on Life of Pi Lifeboat Challenge

Mike PerhamIn conjunction with the RNLI, Mike Perham took on the following challenge to mark the release of Life of Pi on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray & DVD.

The video was filmed over the past two weeks and documents the re-enactment of Pi’s journey where he spent 227 days at sea so we teamed up with the RNLI and Mike Perham, the youngest person to sail around the world solo – which he did aged 17, and challenged Mike to spend 227 hours at sea taking part in tasks that Pi carried out whilst adrift.

Mike undertook this challenge in and around the Langstone Harbour with the help and support of the RNLI starting on the 20th April. Mike endured some of the trials Pi went through in the film including trying to catch fish from a line and building a satellite raft. Mike, fairly obviously, lived and slept on the boat for the duration – and this time it wasn’t a fully kitted out round-the-world yacht but a basic wooden lifeboat exactly like the one seen in the film!
