Muppets Most Wanted leads the new cinema releases & trailers – w/e March 28th 2014

muppets-most-wantedMarch is almost at an end, British Summer Time begins on Sunday, so spring is supposedly here…

This week’s selections are: Muppets Most Wanted, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Legend of Hercules.

Muppets Most Wanted

While on a grand world tour, The Muppets find themselves wrapped into an European jewel-heist caper headed by a Kermit the Frog look-alike and his dastardly sidekick.

Starring Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy, Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey, if you have young children then this film is for you, but I didn’t bother with their last outing and I won’t be going to see this. I’m also completely sick and tired of Ricky Gervais.

Hit or Miss? Verdict: Miss!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from old history: the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.

Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Stan Lee, Toby Jones and Jenny Agutter, I’ve seen numerous trailers for this. It looks okay, but nothing particularly major. Fans of the character will most likely watch it, but I’ll give it a miss.

Legend of Hercules

In Ancient Greece 1200 B.C., a queen succumbs to the lust of Zeus to bear a son promised to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the king and restore peace to a land in hardship. But this prince, Hercules, knows nothing of his real identity or his destiny. He desires only one thing: the love of Hebe, Princess of Crete, who has been promised to his own brother.

When Hercules learns of his greater purpose, he must choose: to flee with his true love or to fulfill his destiny and become the true hero of his time. The story behind one of the greatest myths is revealed in this action-packed epic – a tale of love, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit

In a week where two other big films are being released, it feels like an odd time to put this out, especially when the big blockbusters are normally saved for the summer. The fact it’s only scored 4.3/10 on IMDB is very telling.

Directed by Renny Harlin and starring Kellan Lutz as Hercules, plus Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins, Roxanne McKee and go-to bad guy Rade Serbedzija,
