Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens – IMAX poster

Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens opens in cinemas on December 17th and just when you thought that the final poster *was* the final poster, it isn’t! Because there’s now an IMAX poster! And while it looks a bit small, click on it for the full-size version.

Did you try to book tickets yesterday for the first day in ten years of new Star Wars goodness? Well, with tickets going on sale yesterday at 8am, all the cinema websites went into meltdown!

I tried to book the Odeon IMAX 3D at Manchester Printworks for the midnight screening, and despite once or twice managing to select the seats and then go to the checkout, it would either say “Session data expired” or tell me the seats had already gone! In the end, I settled for the mid-morning screening where I very nearly didn’t get my seats of choice as someone else had taken them, yet clearly they had a problem because they became free again and I was able to buy them! So it kinda worked out in the end.

Ever-present Andy Serkis will be one of the newbies, as Supreme Leader Snoke, alongside John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o and the awesome Max von Sydow. They will all be alongside Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

JJ Abrams will direct, but once again he’s been proved to be a cheap-ass, since while it’ll appear in 3D in the cinema, just like Star Trek Into Darkness, he’s filming it in 2D, and then doing a post-conversion into 3D. If you’re going to make it 3D, do so from the start!

Word is, however, that some of it WILL be shot with IMAX cameras, since Mission Impossible Rogue Nation could not do the same because the IMAX cameras available were all on the Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens set.

The film will be written by Lawrence Kasdan and JJ Abrams, produced by Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk, and the composer, as ever, is John Williams.

Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens will be released in UK cinemas on December 17th 2015. Check out the latest trailer below and click on the poster for the full-size image. But where’s Luke Skywalker? And how many more trailers will we get between now the release date? I feel like I’ve nearly seen the whole film!
