The Lobster – the perfect Anti-Valentines Day movie?

the lobster

The Lobster is out this week on Blu-ray and DVD and saw the fantastic Olivia Colman being awarded the winner of Best Supporting Actress at the British Independent Film Awards.

This darkly funny love story stars Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz with a stellar supporting cast including Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, John C Reilly, Olivia Colman, Michael Smiley and Ashley Jensen.

Winner of the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for seven awards at the British Independent Film Awards, the film has now passed £1m at the UK Box Office and currently stands at £1.3m (approx). It’s a love story set in the near future where single people, according to the rules of The City, are arrested and transferred to The Hotel. There they are obliged to find a mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into The Woods. A desperate man, David (Farrell) escapes from The Hotel to The Woods where The Loners live and falls in love, although it is against their rules.

Now, with Valentine’s Day around the corner, for some of us it’s not all about roses and romance. If you’re fed up of all the schmaltz, pour yourself a glass of red wine, order your favourite takeaway and pop one of the below films in your DVD player with this list of the ultimate Anti-Valentine’s Day movies…
