Ghostbusters 3: Afterlife – Trailer 1 – Bill Murray

Ghostbusters 3 Ghostbusters 3: Afterlife is the official third movie since the 2016 female reboot was a complete dumpster fire. The original crew said they’d never do a third one as time droned on, but then those who are still acting threw away all their principles and jumped in for that reboot, for the shameless cash-in, and it was embarrassing.

So, hopes are not high for this movie.

Of course, Harold Ramis is no longer with us, so that leaves Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray. And they’re not even in this first trailer which is more like a teaser. Man, this looks like a stinker!

Synopsis: When a single mum and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

January 16th:

Ghostbusters 3 (Ghostbusters 4, surely?) is apparently in the works, according to the ideas-free Jason Reitman, son of the original 1984 movie’s director, Ivan Reitman, who also brought us the excellent Stripes, but has also given us endless stinkers.

While I loved the original Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman really dropped the ball with Ghostbusters II. It had some interesting ideas in there, but completely fell apart with the ‘mood slime’ and a finale involving making the Statue of Liberty walk down the street in New York.

The 2016 Ghostbusters movie reboot redefined the term “dumpster fire”.

The only good thing about it was the return to a Paul Feig movie for Spy‘s Zach Woods, who played the tour guide in the opening scene. Beyond that, the script was terrible – as shown many times and especially with Chris Hemsworth’s “Mike Hat / My Cat” ‘joke’, Melissa McCarthy proved the law of diminishing returns had long since kicked in when it comes to her schtick, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig are about as funny as trapping your finger in a car door, and Leslie Jones did nothing but talk (well, shriek) in the ‘attitude’ manner you only hear black women do so in the movies; director Paul Feig overspent on the budget, ignoring the advice of cast members on how to do things to bring it down, and almost all of the original film’s cast turned up to top up their pensions with godawful cameos.

Looking at Jason Reitman’s body of work, I wasn’t enamoured with Juno like a lot of other people were, and Up In The Air is one of those films which started off well and then completely fell apart.

And now he’s planning Ghostbusters 3, which, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, he will direct and co-write, and is a direct sequel to the first film, but he has no idea what the plot will be or who will star. Will he get more embarrassing cameos out of Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray? Harold Ramis died in 2014, so he won’t be back. The whole thing just sounds like a terrible idea and is slated for release in “summer 2020”.

No, Jason, just stop and pack it in. It’ll be “slated” and that’s all. And there’s as much chance of it happening as the allegedly-forthcoming Atari VCS/Ataribox console.
