Stars of yesteryear…. get a dusting down.

These were the songs that graced the airwaves of Radio 1 during the late ‘60s, ‘70s and early ‘80s.

Just checking the tracklisting will give you those inevitable ‘romantic flashbacks’ to either old flames or current partners. Some are simply outstanding like Minnie Riperton’s Lovin’ You to the downright cheesy Sunny Honey Girl by Cliff Richard.

Scattered around the whopping 65 tracks across 3 CDs, you inevitably find your personal favourites, and by definition, there’s plenty to choose from.If you’re a young mobile DJ who’s keen to impress with knowledge of past hits then the following will do the trick. Elton John and Kiki Dee’s Don’t Go Breaking My Heart (Sir Elt’s first No.1), John Paul Young’s Love Is In The Air (1978) Barry White’s fab You’re The First, The Last, My Everything ( Big Baz’s first No.1 from 1974) and Tamla Motown’s the Elgins’ top 3 hit of 1971, Heaven Must Have Sent You.

For the lovers in you, look no further than Queen’s rock-ballad You’re My Best Friend a big hit in the summer of ’76.Smooch-wise, you can snuggle up to Diana Ross’ 1974 top 10- ten hit All Of My Life, the greatest soul singer of-all-time Marvin Gaye duetting with Tammi Terrell on You’re All I Need To Get By (1968) and the amazing ballad Sometimes When We Touch by Dan Hill from 1978.

Anthemic sing-alongs don’t come much bigger than Labi Siffre’s It Must Be Love (1971) The Commodores’ 1978 unforgettable chart-topper Three Times A Lady, featuring future solo-star Lionel Richie and one of the best love songs ever, the monumental If You Don’t Know Me By Now by Philadelphia soulsters Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, that once included the recently deceased Teddy Pendergrass.Cheese-wise you could plumb for The Rubettes’ Sugar Baby Love, and Showaddywaddy’s Heartbeat, both on CD2.

Choosing the best songs is tough, but here goes- Bread’s gorgeous UK debut single and number 5 hit, Make It With You. It has everything a love song should have. A close second has to be Dr. Hook’s ’76 summer hit A Little Bit More, which finally made them household names.

The verdict: Definitely one for Valentine’s Day.
