72 Nichola Holt – The GameOne of the Big Brother evictees, i.e. “Zippy”, the bald Sinead O’Connor-a-likefrom Bolton who left the day after Nasty Nick, tries her hand at the chartswith this dance single and it’s failed miserably. I actually thought it wouldbe a big hit too.

27 Erasure – FreedomTheir comeback and a rather boring one at that.

25 Muse – Muscle Museum * !!!Bloody brilliant, loud and atmospheric with a well-weird video, but can anyoneexplain what it’s all about? It’s a regular on MTV2, BTW.

8 Azzido Da Bass – Dooms NightA rip-off of Underworld’s Juanita.

2 Robbie Williams/Kylie Minogue – KidsA collaboration that’s on both their albums and it’s overhyped and lifeless.

1 U2 – Beautiful Day *1st Week at No.1*

The first single in a couple of years from the Irish band and it’s anincredibly dull and pedestrian affair with absolutely nothing to recommend it.

Why can’t they write another “Lemon”, “Numb” or “One”?

This single is the 34th in a row to go straight in at No.1 and beats theprevious record held last year of 32 singles going straight in at the top,which I listed last week.
