Elly Roberts reviews
Lo Mismo Que Yo (If Only)
[Humo De Tabaco]
Now were talking great music! This stunning Latino Caribbean chiller sung in Spanish and English – is the dreamiest love song Ive heard thisyear. Touching on the Buena Vista Social Club with a 21st century twist, its gorgeous melodic sways will turn you into jelly, especially ChuchoValdes piano work.
Ron Sexsmiths husky singing is the icing on the cake.Track 2 Fuego is probably more indigenous to BVSC sensibilities andpossesses all the attributes and flavours of the old Havana masters IbrahimFerrer, Ruben Gonzalez and Compay Segundo.
Alex Cuba Band release debut album Humo De Tobaco on 8 November.
[My Everything]
Recent MOBO award winner returns after ten years with a new single and album. Revered by musiciansand critics alike, this mellow soulful album title – track offering is too sophisticated for UK tastes.
Trademark smokey vocals, and superbly produced etc: this ones strictly for lovers – get the wine outand switch off the lights. Doubtful if itll have the same success as smash hit Sweet Love.

Elly Roberts passed away in 2011, but he was a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
