Elly Roberts reviews
Sony Music TV
What goes round comes round in this case its ballroom dancing.
It takes two to Tango ie the programme makers and the public and Strictly ComeDancing has certainly captured the publics imagination with this flagshipprime-time programme.
Song and danceman Bruce ‘Bonus’ Forsyth takes thelead on this dance compilation to accompany the highly successful BBCtelevision series. Once again television has proved to be a powerfulvehicle. Since the programme began in the spring, there has been anexplosion in people attending dance classes across the UK.
In effect, this anew slant on an old favourite Come Dancing. With the added glam of Tess Dalyand Natasha Kaplinsky and a host of celebrities like Welsh singer AledJones, Countdowns brain-box Carol Vorderman, Olympic athlete Denise Lewisand former Thats Life presenter Esther Rantzen all thrown into the mix, asthey try their luck at some pretty deft footwork and moves. Just in caseyoure not familiar with the format, each celeb is given a professionaldance partner who will put them through their paces during rigorous dailyrehearsals, making sure theyre in the best shape possible for the liveSaturday night show on BBC 1. They then face being knocked out by a studioand public vote.
Most of the cover versions of well known songs work well, like The BeeGees’ How Deep Is Your Love, the Gypsy Kings’ Bamboleo and Norah Jones’ ComeAway With Me, whilst some are mediocre Labelle’s Lady Marmalade and theContour’s Do You Love Me.
However this is targeted at fans of the show whofancy their chances at home. Forsyth himself clearly loves singing the oldstandards, particularly Mr.Bojangles, Let’s Do It and The Lady Is A Tramp. So come on and join in the fun shift the sofa, move the tables and chairs andget Quickstepping, Rumbaing or Tangoing. All songs are performed at thecorrect dance tempo so you could be the next Fred and Ginger!

Elly Roberts passed away in 2011, but he was a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
