Elly Roberts reviews
Atlantic
Three years ago Aussie rockers Jetleft their calling card with singles Are You Gonna Be My Girland Rollover DJ, both exciting introductions to the quartet.
This, the follow up to 2003’s two million selling Get Born, Jet (namedafter a Wings song) are back with a retro (late ’60s/early ’70s) classicrocker, with a hint of The Beatles an others, in the melodies and songstructures, which is no bad thing these days.
To impress, they do some impressive stadium-targeted incendiary riffs andpicks, countered by some well thought out catchy tunes.
Truth is, they have a healthy repertoire even though its nothing new orgroundbreaking, more like a tribute to the past, but its brilliant stuffanyway.
A delicate 23-second intro translated as The Spirit Of The Stars aBeatles wink, masks the thrusting Holiday as they go into flight withwailing guitars and thumping chorus, segued by classy single Put Your Money– possibly the most memorable rock offering this year: a kind of track a 21stCentury Rolling Stones should think about doing Keef would be proud of this.
Thinking stadium potential, Thats All Lies is a blast that willresonate for ever on the live circuit, as will a pleading Come On Come On,along a with an AC/CD rugged Stand Up.
Lennon and McCartney, never far away from their thoughts, Bring It On Back,Shiny Magazine and Shine On are all fitting tributes to theirheroes. Proving theres more than just decibels in their armoury, a gorgeousun-plugged Eleanor is a major lightweight highlight. All You Have ToDo is destined to become a concert anthem, with its meticulous closeharmonies and rousing chorus.
Shine On indeed!

Elly Roberts passed away in 2011, but he was a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
