Gone centres around David Morrissey (The Woman In Cabin 10) as officious headmaster Michael Polly, who’s one step less unpleasant than Mr Bronson in Grange Hill.
His wife, Sarah, hasn’t come home, and when he or his daughter, Alana (Emma Appleton – The Road Trip), try to call her phone, it’s switched off. Does he know something, or given his stern demeanour, is he just trying to block out reality?
I do question why one cop moans that Michael’s taken “so long to tell us” to report his missing wife, when it’s been less than 24 hours, and you can’t report someone within the first 24 hours! Iffy writing? It’s used as a break-bumper moment, after all.
Gone is quite a slow-burner, but has a good cast including Billy Barratt, from last year’s best film, Bring Her Back; while cop Annie’s (Eve Myles – The Hack) mother-in-law is Clare Higgins from the Hellraiser movies!
Plus, one of the cops is the bloke in the Amazon Prime advert who left his security guard job to be a chef, after cooking a cake. As you do.
So, where’s the wife gone if it’s not down the bingo? Who knows what? Well, the only way to find all that out is to watch the series, since that’s how these things work. No spoilers, here!
However, it’s safe to say that Morrissey’s doing a bang-up job of playing Statues, since he barely moves! 😀
Thanks to our friends at ITV for the screener prior to release.
Gone begins tonight on ITV at 9pm, then continues Monday night, and is now available to stream on ITVX.
It’s also available to pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD.
