Mazey Day is the fourth episode of Black Mirror Season 6, and none of the series was available for review prior to going live, so I’m having to play catch-up. And yes, I’m reviewing this before I’ve seen episodes two and three, but they’re all separate stories, and it was the shortest one of the remaining four, while I had limited time for catching another.
This one centres around Bo (Zazie Beetz – Joker, Deadpool 2), a paparazzo, who’s taking shots of celebrities in compromising positions, including faded star Justin Camley, but is then offered money by the man, so they don’t go to press. Either way, things don’t go to plan…
Following similar jobs, she’s losing her mojo for this sleazy work, until soap star Mazey Day (Clara Rugaard) comes onto her horizon, as the young starlet has gone dark after driving while high, running someone over, then quickly scarpering.
Meanwhile, her flatmate, Nathan (David Rysdahl) is so anally-retentive, even though Bo’s rent is overdue, as she subsequently quit snapping dodgy pics for a living, but since everyone now wants a picture of Mazey, there’s $30k on offer for the first picture.
Along with Bo, and every snap-happy individual she works alongside, the time comes to track her down and see what there is to see, but safe to say that her new abode isn’t quite all it seems…
However, this fourth episode has no ‘Black Mirror‘ feel to it, and rather stupidly turns into something I can only describe by putting behind a spoiler header, so you’ve been warned if you still want to watch it.
