Mocean Worker: Detonator / Diagnosis is a DVD Video EP, created by Abbey Road Interactive, containing two tracks. Both are drum-and-bass tunes, the first one, Detonator, featuring a promo video containing footage of crash-test-dummy car crashes and the latter, Diagnosis, is a similar track but not quite as good and features clips of many different things – far too many to mention – all within a small window with other, smaller, windows appearing all around it.
I checked my Guinness Book of Hit Singles for an entry from Mocean Worker, aka Adam Dorn, but could find nothing.
The picture quality is very good and even if there were any artifacts, you wouldn’t spot them given the material on view, mostly comprising of the aforementioned car crashes as well as bizarre camcorder shots. Detonator is in an approximate 16:9 ratio and anamorphic, while Diagnosis is 4:3. The average bitrate is an approximate 7.50Mb/s.
The sound is LOUD! just as drum-and-bass should be. Options are available for Dolby Digital 5.1 and Linear PCM Stereo.
Extras :
Chapters and Trailers : There are 2 chapters on this disc – one for each track – plus trailers for four other Palm Pictures releases: Talking Heads – Stop Making Sense, Baaba Maal: Live at the Royal Festival Hall, Ghost in the Shell and Dancehall Queen.
Languages & Subtitles : The only language that features here is English and only in the interview. There are no subtitles.
And there’s more… : A 4-minute Interview with Adam Dorn, split into four sections each either above or below a minute. The Biography is two pages long but doesn’t tell you a great deal.
The DVD-ROM content features music samples, info and rough-looking video clips of a range of Palm Pictures produce: Sly and Robbie, Baaba Maal, Mocean Worker, Ernest Ranglin and Kora Revolution.
Menu : Silent, but hypnotic animation is the best way to describe it.
Fans of Mocean Worker will want a listen. As for me, while it’ll wake up the neighbourhood and is good stuff to dance to, it’s entirely forgettable.
