Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

63 Cake – Short Skirt Long JacketA very funky track that should’ve been a monster – if only it got someradio airplay – with at least three different videos of members of the publicgiving their insightful opinion into the music.

31 Weezer – Island in the Sun * !!!Following up “Hash Pipe” with a much more laidback track, it’s stillessential listening and deserves a Top 10 placing which it won’t get.

17 System of a Down – Chop Suey * !!!A great slice of American indie rock that’s had plenty of MTV2 airplayand goes through several different changes of direction in the four or fiveminutes it runs for. Takes a while to get used to but it’s worth it.

4 Five – Closer to MeTheir last ever single now they’ve split, but no-one will be mourning theirloss as they might have done with Take That.

1 Afroman: Because I Got High *2nd Week at No.1*

A simple tune about a man who fails to do all manner of tasks plannedthat day because he smoked something and got high. A very entertaining song.

This is the 14th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. DJ Pied Piper – Do You Really Like It
  • 2. Shaggy feat. Rayvon – Angel
  • 3. Moulin Rouge – Lady Marmalade
  • 4. Hear’Say – The Way To Your Love
  • 5. Roger Sanchez – Another Chance

Dominator’s Top 50 of 2000

44. Rage Against the Machine – Sleep Now in the FireIt only made No.43 last year in April and being based in the New York stockexchange and making fun of the Mayor it’s no surprise it hasn’t been shownsince early September on MTV2, but it’s a damn good track nonetheless.Review copyright © Dominic Robinson, 2001.
