Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

63 (122) Element Four – Big Brother ThemeA bit late to start readvertising it, perhaps?

28 (21) They Might Be Giants – Boss of MeI emailed Pizza Hut in the past week to ask why they were using the track”Twisting” by this band to advertise their “fun” Twisted Crust pizzas, giventhat the song is about a girl who hates her man so much she wants to see himhanging until he’s dead, hence the lyrics “twisting, slowly twisting in thewind.”.

The reply was :

“Thank you for your E mail regarding our choice of music accompanying ouradverts for the Twisted Crust pizza.

Please accept our apologies for any upset you may have been caused, however, the remix version of the song was chosen for its rythym and theuse of “twisting” in the lyrics.

Assuring you of our best attention at all times.

Yours sincerely

Customer Care Centre”

24 REM – All the Way To Reno * !!!Sounding rather a lot, in places, like a B52’s album track, Follow Your Bliss, taken from the Cosmic Thing album, this is pure genius even if it israther repetitive.

19 Catatonia – Stone By StoneAnd drink by drink, since the excesses of being an international pop starhas taken its toll on Cerys by sending her to a drying-out clinic.

1 Atomic Kitten – Eternal Flame :O === *1st Week at No.1*

As the Bangles re-release their Greatest Hits album under the title of this, their 1989 No.1 single, the band that were nearly dead before “Whole Again”capitalise upon the popularity of the track with a dire cover version thatturns it from a sloppy romantic song into a pop song. Stick with the original.

This is the 7th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. DJ Pied Piper – Do You Really Like It
  • 2. Shaggy feat. Rayvon – Angel
  • 3. Moulin Rouge – Lady Marmalade
  • 4. Hear’Say – The Way To Your Love
  • 5. Roger Sanchez – Another Chance
  • 6. Robbie Williams – Eternity / The Road to Mandalay
  • 7. Atomic Kitten – Eternal Flame

Dominator’s Top 50 of 2000

31. Infesticons – Hero ThemeCatchy dance track from last year that never seemed to touch the chartsbut is a classic to these ears, with fast rap that’s actually clever, although features some dodgy lyrics that aren’t for young ears.Review copyright © Dominic Robinson, 2001.
