38 Suggs – I Am *First new single in a while from Suggs and an excellent one at that, evenif it is from “The Avengers” soundtrack.
24 Queen Pen – It’s True :O ===After the dire “All My Love” which was more than a rip-off of Luther Vandross’“Never Too Much” as it just played that song with wanky mumblings from EricWilliams. Is this one a cover too? (I hope) It’s (not Spandau’s) True (!)
19 Electrasy – Morning Afterglow *After making No.60 in May with another song called “Lost in Space”, likeApollo 440 and the Lighthouse Family, this is a superb ballad which deservesa Top 10 placing.
10 Madonna – Drowned World (Substitute For Love) *Third single from the “Ray Of Light” album and it’s ballad time for Maddie.She’s now 40, and this single has a controversial promo video which showsMadonna being chased by papparazi on motorbikes, just like Princess Di.
1 (NEW) Manic Street Preachers – If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next * !!! *1st Week at No.1*First single from the Manics in ages and this is easily the best single ofthe week, accompanied by a widescreen promo video, to be followed by a newalbum released on Sept 14th, “This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours”.

36. Pet Shop Boys – Red Letter Day
Following “Before” (No.7, May 96), “Se A Vide E” (No.8, August 96) and”Single-Bilingual” (No.14, November 96), “Red Letter Day” was the PSB’s firstsingle of 1997 making No.9 in March last year.
The Pet Shop Boys were singing about the fact that we’re all waiting for theRed Letter Day. It starts nicely with a build up from the Moscow Choir, andthen runs into typical PSB territory.
It was followed by Stephen Sondheim’s gay anthem “Somewhere” (No.9, July 97).
