14 Kula Shaker – Mystical Machine Gun :O ===

First new single in a couple of years. While a couple of their first hits weregood, their last single, “Govinda”, was rubbish and so is this.

10 Elton John & LeAnn Rimes – Written in the Stars

Duet time for the biggest UK single-seller and one of the USA’s rising countrystars, but it’s rather a drippy ballad. Pass.

7 Cardigans – Erase/Rewind *

The best of the bunch this week, but it’s still not really good enough fora single-of-the-week award and the video’s rather dull.

5 Cher – Strong Enough :O ===

More tripe, without the wavy voice this time, but catchy.

3 Whitney Houston – It’s Not Right But It’s Okay :O ===

After the flop of her current album, her Xmas duet with Mariah Carey made adent in the charts, so she comes back for more. It’s not right, and it’sterrible.

2 Blur – Tender

Hopes were high that this would go straight in at No.1 like singles have donefor the past 12 weeks, but it hasn’t. I can’t offer my opinion on it at thistime as I haven’t heard it yet.

Dominator’s Top 50 of 1998

10. Shawn Colvin – Sunny Came Home

Finally, it happened to her, right in front of my face and I just couldn’tbelieve it. Shawn Colvin, after nine years of UK singles releases since 1990’s“Steady On”, finally had a UK solo chart hit. Until then, she had only hada duet with Mary Chapin Carpenter in 1995 when “One Cool Remove” made No.40,but justice prevailed in the end.

Her current album, “A Few Small Repairs”, was released in 1997 and the single“Get Out Of This House” only made No.70. In July 1997, her record company putback the release of “Sunny Came Home” indefinitely reckoning it wouldn’t getin the Top 60. By cancelling said release they made sure of it!

Now after some airplay for the track and with country music finally gettingan airing on mainstream radio, Shawn Colvin gets the recognition she deservesas this track made No.29 in May last year. Here’s to many more chart hits!
