    CHART TIME !

    (* – my current favourites)
(!!! – Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
    ( (R) – Repeat., ie. a re-release)

A brief analysis on the current chart situation…

13 new entries this week, no climbers, and two non-movers (Chumbawambaat 2, and Will Smith at 1).

Big fallers include Shola Ama (3 to 12), Jon Bon Jovi (10 to 28),Missy ‘Misdemeanour’ Elliott (16 to 34), and Foo Fighters (18 to38).

Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

35 The Cardigans – Your New Cuckoo

They had a massive hit with “Lovefool” and now their new single is acomparable flop. I’d blame this on zero airplay on the radio as I’ve heard itnowhere, and I thought they were the new radio darlings.

17 Bentley Rhythm Ace – Bentley’s Gonna Sort You Out!*

Can’t remember how it goes right now, but I do remember it’s a damn goodinstrumental.

16 No Mercy – Kiss You All Over :O ===

Third single from No Mercy, and they just get worse and worse.

    8 Radiohead – Karma Police *

Excellent follow-up to “Paranoid Android”, and a bit slower, but with aterrible video, from what I saw on ITV’s Chart Show.

    5 Ocean Colour Scene – Travellers Tune * !!!

Follow-up time again, this one to “100 Mile High City”. This one isjust as frantic and definite car-radio material…

    1 (1) Will Smith – Men In Black *4th Week at No.1*

Title track from the new Barry Sonnenfeld (Addams Family 1 and 2, Get Shorty)film, and what an excellent film it is. I saw it last week and expected not toomuch, but it’s one of the few films that actually offers more than what yousee in the trailer.

For the first time ever on Sunday night I heard the original version of thetrack “Forget Me Nots” by Patrice Rushen which made No.8 in 1982,and it’s clear that this single is a direct rip-off. However, after this andGeorge Michael’s Fastlove also coining-in on that song, PatriceRushen has made more money from the two songs combined that the original on itsown!

I didn’t much care for Smith’s performance in “Independence Day” as I wasn’tready for him turning that film into a comedy. He works very well in thissci-fi/comedy though, along with an excellent (as always) performance fromTommy Lee Jones, plus support from Linda Fiorentino (The Last Seduction),Vincent D’Onofrio (Private Pyle in Full Metal Jacket) playing the bad guy,and Rip Torn as Agent Z.

As for this song, I’ll pass. It’s a standard rap affair which doesn’t havehalf the impact that “Boom! Shake the Room” had, and wouldn’t have done as wellhad it not been attached to a film.

    Dominator’s Top 50 of 1997

    36. Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out)

Flavour-of-the-year Radiohead had just the one hit last year, and it madeNo.5 in February, and came from their acclaimed album, “The Bends”.

The video was superb, being a black-and-white mixture of slo-mo and real-timefootage, complementing the song perfectly.

    The end bit :

Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me atCharts Request to tell me.

    Bye for now,

    Dominator
