New entries from No.41-75. See who missed out this time round :
What happened to this band? Mr Writer was still a classic like their earlierstuff, but “Have a Nice Day” sucked big-time and was too commercial, andthis is just duff in the extreme.
13 P Diddy and Mark Curry – Bad Boy For LifeNot THE Mark Curry? 9 Elton John – I Want LoveHmm, the first new single from Elton in a while, bar the soppy Disney stuff,is a rather lacklustre affair.I can listen to it and watch the Robert Downey Jr video once, but after thatit doesn’t have anything to say and is rather boring.
5 Liberty – Thinking It Over”Flopstars”, aka the other five of the final ten that didn’t make it into”Hear’Say” and it has more of an R’n’B feel but I’ve not heard it in full. 2 Steps – Chain Reaction / One For Sorrow (US remix) :O ===Another new single, another No.2.The first is a cover of the mid-80s Diana Ross track written by the Bee Geesand they’ve made such a fuck-up of it. A US remix of One For Sorrow doesn’thelp either and both pre-empt the forthcoming “Gold: Greatest Hits” album.
1 Kylie Minogue – Can’t Get You Out of My Head *2nd Week at No.1*Well, so much for the Kylie vs. Posh No.1 single battle as the lattercouldn’t even manage a hit inside the Top 5 – and deservedly so.
As for Kylie, it’s okay, but that’s all. It’s a mediocre track that doesn’tinspire much in the way of positive thoughts. Yes, she may have a slinky whitedress in the video but it doesn’t sit well when you have the body of anEthopian.
Much better is the track I’ve only recently heard, even though I understandit’s a year old and comes from her last album. That track is “Your DiscoNeeds You”. Why they hell wasn’t that released over here??

40. No Doubt – Ex-GirlfriendThis made No.23 in March last year and was fast, enegertic and frenetic, NoDoubt’s music goes from strength to strength, but like their previous single,New (No.30, June 99), they’re just not selling in great numbers in thiscountry.Review copyright © Dominic Robinson, 2001.
