Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

75 Ramsey & Fen feat. Lynsey Moore – Love BugNot the unpopular computer virus from Manilla I hope.

53 Duran Duran – Someone Else Not MeHaven’t heard this anywhere. No wonder it’s not selling.

38 The Dandy Warhols – Get Off * !!!One of many songs in the chart that deserved to do much better. Moreremembered for “Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth”, this track has avideo that reminds me of the opening to The Fifth Element and the music itselfis very singalongy. This is my first single of the week.

33 Maxim & Skin – Carmen QueasyWeird as hell.

32 Doves – Catch The Sun * !!!“Catch the sun… before it’s gone”, the style and smoothness of the tunemakes you wish you were on holiday. My second single of the week.

29 Embrace – Save Me *An up-tempo, not laden down with the usual heavy or depressing subject mattertheir songs end up with.

17 Buffalo G – We’re Really Saying SomethingA crap cover for kids of the Bananarama hit (No.5, April 82).

13 Mikey Graham – You’re My AngelThe debut solo single for the non-gay Boyzone singer and it’s a load ofdull rubbish.

12 Trevor & Simon – Hands UpIs this as bad as it sounds for the ex-Childrens TV presenters?

7 Dr Dre feat. Eminem – Forget About DreNot a bad rap record, but only worth a listen and a watch of the video, for Eminem’s weird humour.

6 Pink – There You GoComplete rubbish. Sounds like a dreadful Destiny’s Child record. And when I saw the singer on CD:UK, I was expecting to see Bob Geldof turnup…

5 Mary Mary – Shackles (Praise You)I don’t know what this is, but should I guess that it’s the original trackthat spawed the Fat Boy Slim No.1 hit?

4 York – On The Beach :O ===A dance version of Chris Rea’s 1986 hit. Loved the original. Hate the remix.

3 Stephen Gately – New Beginning / Bright Eyes *The debut solo single for the gay Boyzone singer and I really like it,but only because it sounds like a combination of the album tracks fromCutting Crew’s 1986 “Broadcast” album, which spawned their only big-ishhits, “I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight” and “I’ve Been In Love Before”.

1 Sonique – It Feels So Good *2nd Week at No.1*I’ve now heard this and it sounds like a rip-off of a Madonna riff.

This single is the 18th in a row to go straight in at No.1.

  • 1. Westlife – I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun
  • 2. Manic Street Preachers – The Masses Against the Classes
  • 3. Britney Spears – Born to Make You Happy
  • 4. Gabrielle – Rise
  • 5. Oasis – Go Let it Out

    Dominator’s Top 50 of 1999

    23. Elvis Costello – SheMaking No.19 in July last year, the newspapers were touting this as Elvis’first ever No.1, but despite it being very good, I couldn’t quite see theteeny-boppers buying it in bulk.

This cover of the Charles Aznavour classic is taken from Hugh Grant’s bigblockbuster, Notting Hill, in which he falls in love with big-mouthed,hairy-armpitted Julia Roberts. For what it’s worth, the special edition DVD isworth getting and I have a review of it onlineHERE.

    The end bit :

Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me.

    Bye for now,

    Dominator
