Ok, so I’m not a fan of football, but I’ve heard enough Embrace songsin my life to know that every single one of them is complete and uttershite, so bad in fact that they make Coldplay look fresh andinnovative.

Which ever moron gave them the job really needs their head read, sinceeven I know that a football anthem has to be relatively upbeat andcatchy and is one that fans will WANT to sing (eg. Three Lions, WorldIn Motion, er… Back Home?), but a turgid, meandering piece of extremedullness that will send all suicidal types over the edge is not theanswer.

Still, it was funny to see some football fans interviewed in a pub onTV upon its press launch, asked their thoughts. Most were saying through grittedteeth, “…it’s a grower”. This means that they hate it but can’t beseen to lose face on live TV by saying their country’s new footballanthem is shit.

I’ll bet all my worldly possessions that when the World Cup comes alongand if England are doing well in a match, particularly against Germany,the one song fans will be chanting along will be Three Lions andnothing else.

Sadly, as this reached No.38 in its first week out based on downloads only, expect it togo Top 5 next week.

The first single to depose Gnarls Barkley, following that one’s 9-week run, and it’s thispathetic tripe from a girl who things she’s a protest songwriter, walking towards the cameraas the promo video rolls on, boring us constantly.

Then again, there’s not much competition for the top slot – Keane, Pink and Ronan bloody Keating.

This single also stops the run of singles going straight in at No.1 which… had only got asfar as Gnarls Barkley.
