How the mighty have fallen. Both artists known for having smash hits withalmost every record they made plus No.1’s to each, they now plummet to thebottom of the chart on their first week out!
I don’t know what Will Smith‘s done to deserve this, but obviously the new2 Unlimited video hasn’t got lead singer Anita shaking her tits about like shedid in “Tribal Dance”.
13 Matthew Marsden – The Heart’s Lone Desire * !!!
Previously known as car mechanic Chris in ITV’s “Coronation Street”, anothersoap star sets his sights on a chart assault. Since he was a musician beforebecoming an actor, this probably explains why this ballad is very good indeed.
12 Jean Michel Jarre & Apollo 440 – Rendez-Vous 98
ITV’s theme tune to the World Cup finally gets a release, charting higher thanthe BBC’s offering “Pavane” which climbs from 26 to 20 this week.

Like B*witched’s offering, this is also a poppy, upbeat debut, although the girlsinging this time isn’t the sister of a Boyzone member, but the girl from therecent (well, a few months ago) Smash Hits adverts when she had blonde hair,prancing about in a skimpy dress and impressing upon us the fact that SmashHits is all about Pure Pop.

28. Kenickie – Punka
Almost a year to the week, “Punka” made No.38 in the charts in July 1997,being Kenickie‘s third Top 40 hit following “In Your Car” (No.24, Jan 97) and“Nightlife” (No.27, May 97) and was originally released in 1996 making No.43(Sept 96),
It was my single-of-the-week at the time as the song’s not bad, and there’s justsomething in the way that the lead singer says ‘Punka’ 😉
Kenickie fans can look forward to their new single “Stay in the Sun” coming outlater this month, plus a new album “Get In” on August 3rd.
