In the last chart of 1996, I posted my Top 50 singles of the year, picking out the Top 10 first. During 1997, I’ll be going through the list one by one. I’ve finished the Top 10, and have now moved onto the rest.

A brief analysis on the current chart situation…
Only 11 new entries this week, with three climbers (Ultra Nate from 6 to 4,Paula Cole from 28 to 24 and one other. There’s 3 non-movers: Puff Daddy (1),Sash (2), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (27).
There’s also two big fallers in the form of Pet Shop Boys (9 to 25), andJames (23 to 40).
One of last week’s Top 20 new entries, N-Tyce at 20 with “Hey DJ!”, hasdisappeared altogether.
38 Supernaturals – Love Has Passed Away * !!!
Just one of a long line of recent hits for the Supernaturals including“Smile”, “The Day Before Yesterday’s Man” and “Lazy Lover”, the band do itagain with an excellent single.
22 (31) Rembrandts – I’ll Be There For You
It’s a rare single that gets re-released within 2 years to become a Top 10single second-time around, and then on its way down does a U-turn and go backup 9 places (which is considered a hefty climb in these days of the charts),but this single was re-released when the videos of “Friends” were released forsale, all of which are out now or on their way soon, and last Friday (July 4th),the third series began on Channel 4.
Yes the programme is hyped too much, but at the same time it is still veryfunny.
12 Alisha’s Attic – Air We Breathe *
Fourth hit for Alisha’s Attic. I can’t remember how it goes, but no doubt it’sas weird as the others 🙂
8 Sheryl Crow – A Change Would Do you Good *
Fourth single from Sheryl Crow‘s latest eponymous album following “If It MakesYou Happy”, “Everyday Is A Winding Road”, and “Hard To Make a Stand”.
The new single is a catchy affair like her second one, but this video isdirected by Ms. Crow herself, and features the US comedienne who recently cameout, Ellen DeGeneres.

In this week’s Top 10, there’s again not a lot going on, with only threenew entries from UB40 (Guns in the Ghetto, 7) who haven’t released a single fromthis album yet, Del Amitri (Some Other Sucker’s Paradise, 6) and Prodigy(Fat of the Land, 1).
28. Luniz – I Got 5 On It
Making No.3 last February, I didn’t like this at all at first, but it becamea grower, and ended up as one of my favourite records of last year, narrowlymissed the Top 10 of my faves would you believe.
Their only other hit of the year was “Playa Hata” which made No.20 in May.
