Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

16 Sheryl Crow – Soak Up the SunHer first single in a while, but a definitely lacklustre effort with lazylyrics. An “All I Wanna Do” for the 21st Century?

7 X-Ecutioners – Goin’ Down *A rap track with one of the singers from Linkin Park, and damn good itis too. Getting regular airplay on MTV2.

2 Britney Spears – I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a WomanA dreadful, turgid ballad.

1 Gareth Gates – Unchained Melody :O === *3rd Week at No.1*

The runner-up in Pop Idol and it didn’t sell enough to beat Will Young’s1.1 million sales in the first week, but it still sold more than Hear’Say’sdebut.

However, it’s a terrible cover version. His voice is far away from thestrength that’s needed to cover it. Practically on a par with Robson & Jerome.

For those who care, both of Will’s tracks are on here too, but sung byGareth.

This is the 6th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. Aaliyah – More Than a Woman
  • 2. George Harrison – My Sweet Lord (R)
  • 3. Enrique Iglesias – Hero
  • 4. Westlife – World of Our Own
  • 5. Will Young – Anything is Possible/Evergreen
  • 6. Gareth Gates – Unchained Melody
