Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

29 Girls at Play – RespectableNo doubt the next girl band to get the chop following the Sugababes in theirtracks.

27 Jo Breezer – Venus and MarsA load of girlie slop.

20 Ash – Candy :O ===They’ve done some brilliant stuff in the past, but this is bloody awful andtakes “Take It Easy on Yourself” in the background and tries to work a songaround it (badly). The fact that you can’t get that track out of your head justmakes this one grate even further.

8 Sum 41: Fat Lip * !!!A brilliant rock track that’s been around on MTV2 for the past month ortwo twinned with the even better, but way too short, “Pain For Pleasure”

7 Bell and Spurling – Sven Sven Sven :O ===Comedy football recorded named in honour of the England coach.

1 Kylie Minogue – Can’t Get You Out of My Head *3rd Week at No.1*

Well, so much for the Kylie vs. Posh No.1 single battle as the lattercouldn’t even manage a hit inside the Top 5 – and deservedly so.

As for Kylie, it’s okay, but that’s all. It’s a mediocre track that doesn’tinspire much in the way of positive thoughts. Yes, she may have a slinky whitedress in the video but it doesn’t sit well when you have the body of anEthopian.

Much better is the track I’ve only recently heard, even though I understandit’s a year old and comes from her last album. That track is “Your DiscoNeeds You”. Why they hell wasn’t that released over here??

Dominator’s Top 50 of 2000

41. Pet Shop Boys – You Only Love Me When You’re DrunkMaking No.8 in January last year, this was a slow, sombre effort which putthe PSB rightfully back in the Top 10, and was performed at their concertsin December 1999 with only a guitar for musical accompaniment. It’s brilliantbut dropped out of the charts within a few weeks and was the third and finaltrack from their last album.Review copyright © Dominic Robinson, 2001.
