Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

39 Wamdue Project – You’re the ReasonIs this an import? Can’t see any reason why this would chart so low.

13 Basement Jaxx – Bingo Bango *A decent salsa-style dance track. Thought it would’ve gone Top 10 though.

5 Bloodhound Gang – The Bad Touch *Energetic track from a new band with a chorus of :

“You and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals,
so let’s do it like they doon the Discovery Channel.”

3 Richard Ashcroft – A Song For The Lovers *His first single since The Verve split up and an excellent laid-back butfunky tune is it, but the promo video is incredibly bizarre.

1 Craig David – Fill Me In *1st Week at No.1*The guy who did the vocals on the Artful Dodger’s Re-Rewind (and the crowdsay something something) gets a solo single, but it didn’t leave much of animpression on me.

This single is the 12th in a row to go straight in at No.1.

  • 1. Westlife – I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun
  • 2. Manic Street Preachers – The Masses Against the Classes

    Dominator’s Top 50 of 1999

    15. Britney Spears – Baby One More Time

Another week, another No.1 and most people will have bought this on thestrength of the promo video which features the 17-year-old popster in a schooluniform, which she gave away as a competition prize on ITV’s CD:UK at the time.

She made her TV debut on the Disney Club at the age of 11, but it’s onlylast February when she came to the fore with this single which had a veryinteresting video. 🙂

It was followed by two tracks that weren’t as good: Sometimes (No.3, June 99)and (You Drive Me) Crazy (No.5, Oct 99) and another No.1 with Born To Make YouHappy this year.

Britney’s the new Debbie Gibson, although the latter actually wrote her own songs.

    The end bit :

Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me.

    Bye for now,

    Dominator
