Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

74 Alien Ant Farm – Smooth Criminal * !!!A rocking cover of the Michael Jackson hit, I was really surprised it had gonein so low, until Gareth Reed told me it was an import with the UK releasecoming out next week and sure to hit Top 10.

34 Marilyn Manson – The Nobodies * !!!Joint single of the week and a regular on MTV2, this shouts as loud andproud as most of his output, but one has to question the opening of the songwhich sounds like Hear’Say’s “Pure and Simple”.

15 Staind – It’s Been A While * !!!A song that’s been doing the rounds on MTV2 for some time and they recentlyhit the No.1 in the album chart with “Break the Cycle”, but this is far moredeserving of a No.1 single than Bob the fucking Builder!

6 Artful Dodger & Melanie Blatt – Twenty Four SevenThe first solo effort from an ex-All Saint and what a boring, turgid effortit is. You can just about hear her sing, but she’s not got the strength for alead voice and it sends you to sleep.

1 Bob The Builder – Mambo No.5 :O === *1st Week at No.1*

This really is dreadfully sad. A few changed lyrics so that carpentry termsreplace girls’ names and do you really want to hear Neil Morrissey singing asong while sounding bored?

This is the 11th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. DJ Pied Piper – Do You Really Like It
  • 2. Shaggy feat. Rayvon – Angel
  • 3. Moulin Rouge – Lady Marmalade
  • 4. Hear’Say – The Way To Your Love
  • 5. Roger Sanchez – Another Chance
  • 6. Robbie Williams – Eternity / The Road to Mandalay
  • 7. Atomic Kitten – Eternal Flame
  • 8. So Solid Crew – 21 Seconds
  • 9. Five – Let’s Dance

Dominator’s Top 50 of 2000

37. Moloko: Pure Pleasure SeekerMaking No.21 in August last year, this strangely made you want to tap yourfoot even if it’s not that good and the video’s terrible, making it look likethey’re performing on “The Old Grey Whistle Test”, even going as far as to giveback that hair to “Whispering” Bob Harris for a cameo.

It was preceeded by The Time is Now (No.2, April 2000) and followed up byIndigo (No.51, Nov 2000). They also released an album, “Things to Make and Do”.
