Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

Kid Rock: All Summer Long
[Rock ‘n’ Roll Jesus]

71 (58) Kid Rock – All Summer Long

Lazy dance-ish track to the tune of Warren Zevon’s Werewolves of London.

Gabriella Cilmi:
Sweet About Me
[Lessons To Be Learned]

70 (65) Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet About Me

Quite a decent, jaunty little track and one that sounds like an old Motown tune.

Ne-Yo: Closer
[Year of the Gentleman]

63 (55) Ne-Yo – Closer

Predictable and uninteresting.

Eric Prydz: Pjanoo

57 (56) Eric Prydz – Pjanoo

Rather average and, wot, no fit women in much of the video??

Coldplay: Viva La Vida
[Viva La Vida…]

53 (46) Coldplay – Viva La Vida *1st Week at No.1*

Yaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn! What a bunch of pompous, stuck-up arseholes!

Will Young: Changes
[Let It Go]

52 (68) Will Young – Changes

Hmmm… he normally does fairly decent tracks since he shook off the ‘PopIdol’ beginnings, but this track started off okay and then just didn’t seemto know which musical direction to head off in!

Dizzee Rascal: Dance Wiv Me

49 (43) Dizzee Rascal Feat. Calvin Harris & Chrome – Dance Wiv Me

This track made No.1 originally based on downloads alone, but it’s rather mediocre anddidn’t deserve the top slot.

Geraldine: Winner’s Song

46 (19) Geraldine – The Winner’s Song

Peter Kay used to be a funny man, but after he finished Phoenix Nights and went onto Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere, it’s clearthat the other writers of PN, Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice, were the ones that wrote all the funny lines so no wonder they’llno longer work with him since he claimed all the credit.

“Britain’s Got the Pop Factor” may be well observed but The X-Factor is a spoof that didn’t need spoofing, since it continuallysends itself up with the way it behaves.

Still, there’s one born every minute. A lot of people bought the single by Katy Perry in which she pretended to be a lesbian, and now lots of people have bought this joke-free song. God knows why.

The only plus is that it got higher than the single from X-Factor Leon “where has he been?” Jackson.

Katy Perry: I Kissed A Girl
[One of the Boys]

23 (16) Katy Perry – I Kissed A Girl

“Oh, look, I’m pretending to be a lesbian”. Bollocks.

The Saturdays: Up
[Chasing Lights]

13 (7) The Saturdays – Up

Ah, The Saturdays. Good to look at, and they were on Something for the Weekend recently. Watch here:

Kings Of Leon:
Sex On Fire
[Only By the Night]

11 (5) Kings Of Leon: Sex On Fire

Great band. Not a bad track, either and great to see them at the top slot.Certainly more deserved than most things that get there.

Pink: So What?
[Funhouse]

10 (3) Pink – So What?

So what, indeed?

Guru Josh Project:
Infinity 2008

6 (4) The Guru Josh Project – Infinity 2008

Although the 80s is my decade of great music, I was at Uni from 1990-93, and in the first year the original track of this was out and about all over the place and it was fantastic. Great to hear a remixed version!

1990 was, most definitely, time for the Guru. Now 2008 should be as well but too often there’s some stupid lyrics being spoken here which breaks theflow of the track which was only ever meant to be an instrumental!

Girls Aloud: The Promise
[Out of Control]

3 (2) Girls Aloud – The Promise

Where’s the hook in this song? It’s as bad as Will Young’s “Changes” in that it just goes all over the place.

X-Factor: Hero

1 X-Factor Help For Heroes Charity Single *2nd Week at No.1*

Charity single featuring the X-Factor people. Great cause, crap song.
