    (* – my current favourites)
(!!! – Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
    ( (R) – Repeat., ie. a re-release)

A brief analysis on the current chart situation…

14 new entries this week, 1 climber (Oasis from 40 to 39),2 non-movers (Natalie Imbruglia at 2, and one other), and 23 going down.

Big fallers include Peter Andre (6 to 22), Embrace (8 to 26), Michael Bolton(14 to 30) and Bee Gees (18 to 38).

    POP NEWS

    1. Spice Girls go it alone.

The feisty five sacked their manager, Simon Fuller, after last Thursday’sMTV awards in a plan apparently masterminded by Geri Halliwell, aka GingerSpice (even though her hair isn’t really that colour at all), as they felttheir manager was taking too much of their profit and that they wanted morecontrol.

However, whether this goes to plan we will have to see, as Fuller brought themthe team who wrote all their hits, as well as getting them their advertisingcampaigns for crisps, cola, cameras and a fragrance. They said they’ve hadenough of working every day for the last two years and want more time tothemselves.

It was alleged that Simon Fuller split from his girlfriend in order to spendmore time with Emma Bunton, aka Baby Spice, but all involved have denied this, and one possibility of the man to take over may be Oliver Smallman, managerof Louise and Eternal.

    2. East 17 member quits

Tony Mortimer has quit East 17. Other details of the case are not known asI type, but this has been rather overshadowed by the conviction and releaseof British au-pair Louise Woodward.

Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

38 (18) Bee Gees – Still Waters (Run Deep)

Not quite walking out of the charts…yet 🙂

24 Peter Cox – If You Walk Away

Second solo single from the ex-Go West singer and thankfully a biggerhit this time round, but it has received zero airplay whenever I’ve beenlistening.

13 Jon Bon Jovi – Janie, Don’t Take Your Love To Town

Not quite as good as Kenny Rogers “Ruby” version 🙂

10 Texas – Put Your Arms Around Me *

Fourth single from their “White On Blonde” album, and another Top 10 hit. However, now that Chris Evans has split from his producer-girlfriend Suzi Aplin, how long before Chris and lead singer Sharleen Spiteri become the next showbizcouple…?

8 Moby – James Bond Theme

The 007 theme jazzed up. Very average.

    7 Gary Barlow – Open Road * !!!

Fourth single from the ex-Take That’s lead singer and unlike his fellowex-TT’s he’s scored a Top 10 hit with each single post the band’s split.

This new one is the title track from the album, and is quite a jaunty pop songthat sounds perhaps less in-depth than it actually is.

6 PF Project featuring Ewan McGregor – Choose Life

Dance track accompanied by the opening monologue from Ewan McGregor as usedin the film, Trainspotting, which was originally added from a worn VHS tape, but Ewan like it so much he let them use it direct from the film.

3 Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion – Tell Him :O ===

    Puke-a-rama.

    2 (2) Natalie Imbruglia – Torn *

Not quite making No.1 this week although it had been thought it might, this is the debut single for the ex-Neighbours star where she played BethBrennan, then with long hair, who left the show after her character marriedBrad Willis.

She quit to start a singing career, and it’s taken about three years, but thefirst results has struck a No.2 hit instantly, even though it was originallydue out two weeks ago. Perhaps a good thing they did put it back, probablybecause the Spice Girls put their record back to the same week. They could’vehad a No.1 if they hadn’t reckoned with a force stronger than the Spice Girls, namely Aqua.

    1 (1) Aqua – Barbie Girl *3rd Week at No.1*

First ever hit, and this week knocking the Spice Girls off their perch aftera week, for this weird band with a black-haired girl as ‘Barbie’, thepopular young girls doll, singing an endless chanting chorus of :

  • I’m a Barbie Girl,
  • In my Barbie world,
  • Life in plastic, it’s fantastic.
  • You can brush my hair,
  • Undress me everywhere,
  • Imagination, life is your creation.

Yes, it’s catchy, but so is impetigo.
