Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

13 Sum 41 – In Too Deep *Not as good as “Fat Lip/Pain for Pleasure”, but is still enough fun and I’mglad it made the Top 20.

12 (4) Hear’Say – Everybody :O ===The empire collapses with this third single as it drops like a stone afterone week and their new album goes in at only No.24.

11 Cliff Richard – Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World :O ===Not two awful tracks, but a medley of the two and how shite can his musicget from now on. Not much worse than this.

7 Hermes House Band – Country Roads :O ===A dreadful Xmas cover of the old song (“Take me home, country road..”).Avoid.

5 Steps – Words Are Not Enough/I Know Him So WellThe band’s Xmas single including the three girls singing the Andrew LloydWebber duet, “I Know Him So Well”.

4 Stereophonics – Handbags and Gladrags :O ===This is the theme tune to BBC2’s observational sitcom “The Office”, butthis cover is a rather slowed down version that really doesn’t sit well withthese ears and also uses the phrasing of the Rod Stewart versions (“the handbagsand the gladrags that your poor old grandad had to sweat to buy”) as opposedto the far better, in many respects, Chris Farlowe version (“the handbagsand the gladrags that your grandad had to sweat so you could buy”).

2 Sophie Ellis Bextor – Murder on the DancefloorA competent dance track which I didn’t think would get very high in theTop 10, but is welcome nonetheless.

1 Daniel Bedingfield – Gotta Get Thru This *2nd Week at No.1*

Somehow this dance track from a complete unknown has shot to No.1. It’snot much cop either.

This is the 18th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. DJ Pied Piper – Do You Really Like It
  • 2. Shaggy feat. Rayvon – Angel
  • 3. Moulin Rouge – Lady Marmalade
