In the last chart of 1998, I posted my Top 50 singles of the year, pickingout the Top 10 first. During 1999, I’ll be going through the list one by onestarting with the Top 10 in alphabetical order.
This week : 12 new entries, 0 climbers, 2 non-movers & 26 downers.CHART TIME !
(* – my current favourites)
(!!! – Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) – Repeat., ie. a re-release)
A brief analysis on the current chart situation…
12 new entries :
I haven’t heard this version yet, but I have a feeling how it will go 🙁
25 Lucid – Stay With Me Till DawnHaven’t heard this either, but I presume it’s dance music meets Judie Tzuke
18 (4) Melanie C – Goin’ Down :O ===Goin’ down the charts like a speeding bullet 🙂
5 Jordan Knight – Give It To YouA permanent migraine, that is.
4 B*Witched – Jesse Hold OnAfter a record-breaking 4 hit singles going straight in at No.1 since the startof their career, this one doesn’t. It doesn’t even deserve a Top 10 placingsince it’s so repetitve and boring.
1 Christina Aguilera – Genie in a Bottle *1st Week at No.1*It missed the Top 40 on its first release, but a bit of promotion works wonders. She’s American, blonde, pretty and like a new Britney Spears, but the song’sas dull as dishwater, unlike La Spears’ debut offering.
This is the 27th single to go straight in at No.1.
If anyone knows of a good site for new release info, please let me know

Dominator’s Top 50 of 1998
42. Radiohead – No SurprisesMaking No.4 in January 98, this was the third single from their “OK Computer”album, and charted at just a place short of the peak of its first, “ParanoidAndroid”.
With the same pace of “Karma Police”, this ballad also has the minimum contentrequired in their promo videos. The first didn’t require anything – they justused a completely unrelated “Robin” cartoon, the series itself getting regularscreenings on the Paramount Channel in the UK shortly afterwards. The secondwas a car driving after a man, almost running him down, but before he managesthis the man turns on the car, sees the petrol leaking and sets fire to it.Man 1, Car 0.
At the time of this single’s release, all I’d seen was lead singer Thom Yorke’sface inside what looks like a space helmet with water pouring in so that thelevel rises almost drowning him, while the lyrics rise up the screen lookingfaint and in reverse. That’s as far as the Chart Show got anyway.
When I saw the rest at a later date, it showed him becoming submerged beforeit eventually being let out again.
The end bit :
