Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

68 Andy Cole – OutstandingTwo words Andy: Diamond Lights

14 Sixpence None The Richer – There She Goes :O ===Around 1990, The La’s had a Top 20 hit with this song and there were madeout to be some sort of chart-superheroes, but it was a dire song that’s stillplayed ad infinitum on the radio and I hate it.

This release only makes things worse.

9 Supergrass – MovingI didn’t like their last single, “Pumping on your Stereo” and I don’t likethis one. It’s too dull. Bring back more like “Going Out” and my favourite,”Late in the Day”.

7 Leftfield/Bambaataa – Afrika ShoxAnother song used in an advert – this time the Guinness ‘horse surfers’.You either know what I’m talking about if you don’t. Either way, there’s nomore to be said.

5 Thunderbugs – Friends ForeverAnother new girl band, a bit like Hepburn, but despite the fact that it’snot the most original song I’ve ever heard, it’s actually quite good, butnot enough to warrant a “*”

4 Lolly – Mickey :O ===What’s dreadful though is this cover version of Toni Basil’s No.2 hit from1982, “Mickey”.

Everyone knows it by now. The original was fine, if a bit odd, while thiscover version really bites the big one.

    1 Vengaboys – We’re Going To Ibiza :O === *1st Week at No.1*

Last week I said, when I saw it go in at No.69 :
“I had this down for another instant No.1, but the fact that it’s bombed sospectacularly proves that there is a god!”

Now, I have scientific that there is NO god, since that was the IMPORT versionand the UK release shoots straight to the bloody top!

This is the 25th single to go straight in at No.1.

  • 1. Fatboy Slim – Praise You
  • 2. 911 – A Little Bit More
  • 3. Offspring – Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
  • 4. Armand Van Helden featuring Duane Harden – You Don’t Know Me
  • 5. Blondie – Maria
  • 6. Lenny Kravitz – Fly Away
  • 7. Britney Spears – Baby One More Time
  • 8. Boyzone – When The Going Gets Tough
  • 9. B*witched – Blame It On The Weatherman
  • 10. Mr Oizo – Flat Beat
  • 11. Martine McCutcheon – Perfect Moment
  • 12. Westlife – Swear It Again
  • 13. Backpassage Boys – I Like It That Way
  • 14. Boyzone – You Needed Me
  • 15. Shanks and Bigfoot – Sweet Like Chocolate
  • 16. Baz Luhrmann – Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)
  • 17. S Club 7 – Bring It All Back

    Dominator’s Top 50 of 1998

    38. Paul McCartney – Beautiful Night

This is Macca’s last single to date (it made No.37 in January last year)and started slowly before becoming more of a rocky tune, the promo videoappearing to have television sets falling out of the sky (!)

Since then, the McCartney family has only turned out tunes from his late wifeLinda, who died of cancer last year, with her mad, incessant ramblings.

    The end bit :

Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me atCharts Request to tell me.

    Bye for now,

    Dominator
