A brief analysis on the current chart situation…
13 new entries this week :
In typical chart fashion, the best bands/artists are always at the wrongend of the charts, and it’s had no airplay to boot.
The track that has been on my mind recently, since I heard it on Sky One’sLong Play (overnight music videos, mostly decent ones) is “Deadweight”(No.23, w/e 8 Nov 97), affiliated with the film, “A Life Less Ordinary”
26 REM – Lotus *Second single from REM‘s latest album, but while it’s very good indeed, it’sunlikely to get any further.
21 Fat Les – Naughty Christmas (Goblin In The Office)A No.2 for “Vindaloo” over the summer meant that a Xmas hit was on the cards,but obviously not. Haven’t heard it yet though.
16 The Beautiful South – Dumb * !!!Not quite as poppy, but this follow-up to the brilliant “Perfect 10” isanother excellent song and, this time, a 2.35:1 widescreen promo video toboot 🙂
4 Mariah and Whitney – When You Believe :O ===The two queens of smoochy shite get together for the ultimate in syrup.However, while Mariah‘s Best Of album is selling well, Whitney‘s “first newstudio album in 8 years” is not.
This track will feature on at least 3 albums though, the third being thesoundtrack to “The Prince Of Egypt”, the latest Dreamworks animation.
3 Billie – She Wants You :O ===“You know that she wants you, she wants you, she wants you”
You know that it’s boring, and tedious and shi-ite.
Knocking Cher off the top after a massive 7-week run is the 4-piece Oirish girlband with their Xmas single.
A slow one, this makes B*witched’s 3rd No.1 in a row going straight in at thetop, an easy move these days by comparison to the good ol’ days of the charts,and means that they top and tail the list below with a song at No.12 belowas well.
This is the sixteenth single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :
Sixteen No.1’s in a row beats the record set in the chart at week endingApril 13th 1996 when the Prodigy rounded off 10 singles going in at No.1 in arow which began with Shaggy. Let’s see how many more are to follow…
