(!!! – Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) – Repeat., ie. a re-release)
A brief analysis on the current chart situation…
9 new entries :
Third single from their “Fin De Siecle” and another good track, but with adaft and elongated name.
3 Bran Van 3000 – Drinking in LA :O ===Currently being used in the advert for “Rolling Rock” bottled lager, this wasalways bound to sell loads, despite being nearly three years old.
Anyway, in similar fashion to Babylon Zoo’s “Spaceman” (No.1, Jan 96), thisis a song taken from an advert which sounds very good ON THE ADVERT, but outsideof that it sounds completely shite because it’s been speeded-up and choppedaround for the advert.
The actual track sounds much slower by comparison and very disjointed, becausethe advert has taken different lines from different verses and stuck themtogether. Oh, and the lager sucks too. Just flat and tasteless.
1 Westlife – If I Let You Go :O === *1st Week at No.1*Second single from the Oirish boy-band managed by Ronan Keating.
This is the 22nd single to go straight in at No.1.
If anyone knows of a good site for new release info, please let me know

Dominator’s Top 50 of 1998
34. Manic Street Preachers – If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be NextThis had one of the longest titles for a single and easily made the best singleof the week, accompanied by a widescreen promo video. Making No.1 in Septemberlast year, it was the first track to be taken from the album, “This Is My Truth,Tell Me Yours”.
I can’t remember the specifics of the politics behind the song, but the endresult was what seemed to happen to the ‘people’ in the video, as well as theband by the end of it (even the Paul Merton look-a-like), hence if you tolerateall that, then it’ll happen to your kids too.
The track has been followed up by “The Everlasting” (No.11, Dec 98),”You Stole The Sun From My Heart” (No.5, Mar 99) and “Tsunami” (No.11, July 99)
The end bit :
Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me atCharts Request to tell me.
