New entries from No.41-75. See who missed out this time round :
[So Called Chaos]
Alanis’ first single in just under two years since while her last hit came in March 2002 (Hands Clean, making No.12), it was followed by flop Precious Illusions that August which could only reach No.52
Alanis was always best when she was at her angriest… which is why this one isn’t worth the bother.Sounds like she’s in love or got religion or something, and it makes for very bland listening indeed.
[Black Cherry]
Sounding like a single from the early 80s, I’m sure this has been used on a shampoo ad already.
It’s an exceptional piece of electropop, and one that’s more accessible than most of Goldfrapp’sprevious work.
Irish Blood, English Heart
[You are the Quarry CD+DVD]
This is his first single since 1998’s Satan Rejected My Soul since the public rejected thatand it only made No.39 in January of that year.
Another political rant which takes a little while to get going, but once the whole thing finallygets into its stride, you could do with another verse or two to maintain the momentum, but…it ends. Hmm…
Overall, not a patch on some of his original solo stuff or The Smiths as he didn’t develop it longenough.
(Fuck You Right Back)
[Good, Bad & Ugly]
Following on from her apparent ex Eamon’s f-word-full single, we now have more of the same with exactlythe same backing music. Given her blanked-out performance on CD:UK this week, who’s going to be next at the top- Norman Collier?
This is the 4th new single to go straight in at No.1 in a row:
- 1. Usher – Yeah!
- 2. McFly – Five Colours in Her Hair
- 3. Eamon – Fuck It
- 4. Frankee – FURB (Fuck You Right Back)
