Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…
24 Happy Mondays – The Boys Are Back in Town

But that’s because they’ve got a huge tax bill to pay and I don’t think aTop 30 placing will help with that.

11 Super Furry Animals – Northern Lites

Haven’t heard this yet, but it’s not very often this band get a deservedchart placing this high so it must be good. Perhaps God did show them magicafter all 🙂

    3 Shania Twain – That Don’t Impress Me Much :O ===

And this one doesn’t either. If this is the best she can come up with afterballads then stick to the other as they’re not quite as bad as this turgid mess.

    2 Geri Halliwell – Look At Me * !!!

First solo single for Geri since her split from the Spice Girls a year agoand the bass line sounds like a cross between “History Repeating” by thePropellorheads & Shirley Bassey and that used in the recent IBM televisionads. The video features her dressed up as a vamp, a bitch, a nun, and some otherthings which is all a bit ridiculous, but it’s safe to say that the song standsup just fine on its own.

Two weeks ago we found out what she’s been up to over that past year when herdocumentary, “Geri”, aired on Channel 4, and it was quite interesting but I betshe’s rather pissed off at not having reached the top slot in the first weekout.

1 Boyzone – You Needed Me *1st Week at No.1*

Dire cover version. Again. Pass the sick bag.

This is the 14th single to go straight in at No.1.

  • 1. Fatboy Slim – Praise You
  • 2. 911 – A Little Bit More
  • 3. Offspring – Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
  • 4. Armand Van Helden featuring Duane Harden – You Don’t Know Me
  • 5. Blondie – Maria
  • 6. Lenny Kravitz – Fly Away

  • 8. Boyzone – When The Going Gets Tough
  • 9. B*witched – Blame It On The Weatherman
  • 10. Mr Oizo – Flat Beat
  • 11. Martine McCutcheon – Perfect Moment

    21. Eric Clapton – My Father’s Eyes

This excellent and much-played on the radio track made No.33 in April last year, but the follow-up, “Circus” (No.39, July 98) was basically ignored by radiostations.
