Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

35 Bjork – CocoonIs this the one where she plays a music box in the background? If so,she’s getting ever more weird by the month.

25 System of a Down – ToxicityMore loud rock from the band who brought you “Chop Suey” and well wortha listen.

9 Iron Maiden – Run to the Hills (R)A live version released in aid of charridee. Why did anyone buy it thoughsince they’ve no doubt already got it?

7 Celine Dion – A New Day Has ComeAnd sadly, the return of her assault on the charts.

4 Jennifer Lopez – Ain’t It FunnyHaven’t we already been subjected to this tripe before?

1 Will Young – Anything is Possible/Evergreen *3rd Week at No.1*

The Pop Idol winner and record-breaker having sold 1.1 million copies ofthis single in its first week. It’s a bit too twee for my tastes.

His cover of “Light My Fire” was interesting though.

It’s now been revealed that Will is gay. Big deal. However, it does mean thata whole new army of fans will buy this single.

This is the 5th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. Aaliyah – More Than a Woman
  • 2. George Harrison – My Sweet Lord (R)
  • 3. Enrique Iglesias – Hero
  • 4. Westlife – World of Our Own
  • 5. Will Young – Anything is Possible/Evergreen

Dominator’s Top 50 of 2001After last week’s look back at all the Top 50 tracks of last year, this week sees the list of my Top 50 of 2001. From next week I shallbegin my look back at them.

12. And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead – Mistakes and Regrets

Just realised that I mentioned this track a year ago, since it madeNo.69 in November 2000. This oft-shown MTV2 track is still just as goodthough.
