Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

28 Vengaboys – Forever as OneTheir first slow song and what a pile of crap it is too. Clearly the recordbuyers also think so.

4 Dido – Here With Me * !!!This single, from the blonde singer whose Thankyou track was sampledfor Eminem’s Stan, sounds to me a little like Judie Tzuke’s Stay WithMe Till Dawn and it’s fantastic.

3 Jakatta – American DreamA dance tune based around the theme fromAmerican Beauty

2 Wheatus – Teenage Dirtbag * !!!With the arrival of a No.1 from Limp Bizkit, hopefully rock is back in thecharts and here to stay, wiping out all the boyband shit that has prevailedover the past few years.

This energetic track, a mainstay on MTV2 at the moment, is taken from thecomedy, “Loser”, which lost out itself after its release late last year anddisappeared shortly after its entry into the cinemas, despite featuring twostars from “American Pie”, Mena Suvari (looking fantastic) and Jason Biggs.

The song features a few kids-TV-unfriendly words that were blanked out orbadly edited on CD:UK when it was announced as “the No.1 at the moment”and MTV2 leave those in, but one word goes a bit skee-wiff at one point.

Note how I said “the No.1 at the moment”. Since there’s still one day’s worthof sales to take into account, Ant and Dec were hedging their bets, probablysince the time they listed an early Westlife single as going in at No.2when it actually hit the top slot in the proper charts.

1 Atomic Kitten – Whole Again *3rd Week at No.1*

Kerry Katona has left to have a kid with one of the Oirish boy-band Westlifeand been replaced by Jenny, who looks exactly like the other two girls.

This single is fairly catchy and, being their first No.1 single, you can’thelp but wonder if this band are now finally on their way up and Kerry iskicking herself for leaving.

This is the 4th single to go straight in at No.1 :
