(* – my current favourites)
(!!! – Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) – Repeat., ie. a re-release)
A brief analysis on the current chart situation…
7 new entries :
5 Suede – Electricity
Nothing much new in the charts this week, the above being first singles releasedin a while from both bands which will act as precursors to a new album, butneither single will particularly change your opinion of the band as they’reboth okay, but nothing special.
1 Martine McCutcheon – Perfect Moment *2nd Week at No.1*The most obvious No.1 of the year so far has got to be Martine McCutcheon‘sdebut solo single. You wouldn’t have thought so given that she started off in a3-piece girl band Milan a few years ago, whose singles don’t even register inthe Guinness Book of British Hit Singles.
Since then she found fame as barmaid and part-time wife to Grant Mitchell inBBC1’s soap opera, “Eastenders”, before doing a show at the Royal Albert Hall. After bowing out of the soap at Xmas by banging her head against the pavement, she now makes a different assault – that of on the charts, and if anyone was inany doubt that this would debut at No.1, you only had to see that a freehour-long advert for her career was given on Easter Monday, ITV in the formof a documentary.
This is the 11th single to go straight in at No.1.

Dominator’s Top 50 of 1998
17. Dandy Warhols – Every Day Should Be A HolidayThis was the first chart hit for the American band who made a record whichsounds like something straight out of the early 80s and deserved to be a No.1,but only made No.29 in February last year.
It was followed by “Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth” (No.13, May 98)which didn’t seem to have any of the title in the song, opting more forrepeating the words, “Herion is so passe”; and “Boys Better” (No.36, Aug 98)which did badly because it had near-zero airplay.
The end bit :
Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me atCharts Request to tell me.
Bye for now,
