Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

23 No Doubt – Ex-Girlfriend *Fast, enegertic and frenetic, No Doubt’s music goes from strength tostrength, but like their last single, New (No.30, June 99), they’re justnot selling in great numbers in this country.

18 Macy Gray – Still :O ===”I Try” was one of my most hated recent singles and this doesn’t fareany better. She’s mad but she doesn’t know it and the sooner people stopbuying her records, the better.

15 Will Smith – Freakin’ It”You want me to freak this?”, repeats Mr. Smith ad nauseum. It’s dreadfuland just as bad as all those other tracks that use the word “freak” whenthey’re trying to be trendy and not say “fuck”.

4 ATB – KillerCrap cover of Adamski’s No.1 single and not half as good but a blatantrip-off.

2 Blink 182 – All the Small Things *Excellent rock tune, fast, entertaining and like an inoffensive version ofthe Beastie Boys. Lnog may they continue.

1 Geri Halliwell – Bag It Up *1st Week at No.1*Played out on a big set at the Brits, the TV ads featured the mad, gingerone on a big set with inflatable legs (not Vanessa Felch in full effect),ranting on about “girl powder”. WTF?

About the only good thing I can say is that the promo is anamorphic, butlooks squashed on normal TVs, so for those who’ve gone the way of thewidescreen, use the “wide” or “16:9” mode, depending on your brand of TV,to stretch the picture out sideways.

This single is the 9th in a row to go straight in at No.1.

  • 1. Westlife – I Have a Dream / Seasons in the Sun

    Dominator’s Top 50 of 1999

    12. Andy Williams – Music To Watch The Girls Go By

Re-released and making No.9 in March last year, this track only made No.33in May 1967, but this catchy tune got a Top 10 placing from a re-releasethanks to an advert for Fiat Punto cars. I’ve got one of these, but I don’tget that many girls ogling it. Then again, there’s so many Puntos on theroad that they’re probably done ogling for the day.

    The end bit :

Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me.

    Bye for now,

    Dominator
