Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

34 The Divine Comedy – Bad AmbassadorThe second single from their new label, but while it’s better than mostof what’s in the charts it’s still hardly a vote winner.

20 Pepe Deluxe – Before You Leave *The funky dance track from the Levi’s “Twisted” jeans adverts. Cool stuffbut it still doesn’t make me want to buy them.

17 Stereo MCs – Deep Down and DirtyThey’ve been away for around 9 years and still “Connected” is played to deathin the Carphone Whorehouse radio adverts, but this new single is ratherdull indeed.

8 BBMak – Still On Your SideReminds me of something incredibly similar but I can’t quite put my fingeron it.

Anyway, they come across as another dreadful American teen boy-band, despitethe fact that they come from the North West of England.

1 (2) S Club 7 – Don’t Stop Movin’ :O === *1st new Week at No.1*

And in a week where La Halliwell has been plugging her new album, her singledrops to No.2 and “Scream If You Wanna Go Faster” goes in at No.5, whichleaves S Club 7 to climb back up to No.1 after being deposed from the topslot 3 weeks ago, a move that hasn’t happened since Xmas 93 when Mr Blobbyswapped places, with Take That taking the No.1 slot inbetween his run at thetop.

This breaks the run of 11 singles going straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. Rui Da Silva feat. Cassandra – Touch Me
  • 2. Jennifer Lopez – Love Don’t Cost a Thing
  • 3. Limp Bizkit – Rollin’
  • 4. Atomic Kitten – Whole Again
  • 5. Shaggy feat. Rikrok – It Wasn’t Me
  • 6. Westlife – Uptown Girl
  • 7. Hear’Say – Pure and Simple
  • 8. Emma Bunton – What Took You So Long
  • 9. Destiny’s Child – Survivor
  • 10. S Club 7 – Don’t Stop Movin’
  • 11. Geri Halliwell – It’s Raining Men

Dominator’s Top 50 of 2000

21. The Dandy Warhols – Get OffI don’t normally accept more than one track per artist, but as with Coldplay, here’s another double and this time it’s from The Dandy Warhols.

This week it’s the turn of Get Off (No.38, June 2000), one of many songs inthe chart that deserved to do much better. More remembered for “Not If YouWere The Last Junkie On Earth”, this track has a video that reminds me of theopening to The Fifth Element and the music itself is very singalongy.

It was followed by Bohemian Like You (No.42, Sept 2000), another excellent trackwith plenty of MTV2 airplay, but criminally ignored by the public.
