Haven’t heard this remix, presuming it is a remix, but I’m wholeheartedlysick of this record. In fact there’s only a handful of Xmas records I couldlisten to, namely Greg Lake, Paul McCartney, Jona Lewie and Chris De Burgh.
10 Jane MacDonald – Cruise Into Christmas Medley :O ===I hated BBC1’s docusoap “The Cruise”. I hate Jane MacDonald, an over-ratedclub singer (give me Vic Reeves’ club singer any day !). I hate this record.I hate her album, of which my fiancee forced me to listen to a bit of.
3 Denise and Johnny – Especially For YouI hate this, but resisted giving it a :O === because it’s for charity,namely this year’s Children In Need.
It’s a spoof cover of the Kylie and Jason single from 1989, which made No.1,but I’ve grown really tired of Denise (not Van) Outen, and especially ofJohnny ‘Smirk’ Vaughn who’s a complete waste of space, and I’ve passed mycomments on how crap the Big Breakfast has got on uk.media.tv.misc before now.
2 Chef – Chocolate Salty Balls (PS. I Love You) * !!!This is the single from South Park’s Chef, aka soul star Isaac Hayes.Yes it’s a novelty record and I don’t really like South Park, but you can’tbeat a bit of groovy funk, especially amongst all the insipid Xmas rubbish.
1 (NEW) Spice Girls – Goodbye *1st Week at No.1*For the third year in a row the Spice Girls at at the top of the charts forXmas. Sounds impressive when you consider that the last act to do this werethe Beatles in the mid-60s.
However, when you look at the reason why this was No.1 this week it’s lessimpressive, as the marketing dept. will sell the single for a cheap UKP 1.99in the week leading up to Xmas, and the record company will give away severalcopies to the shop when they buy just one, thus cheaping this Christmas’miracle’.
That said, “Goodbye” is a rather dull affair and certainly not worthy of thetop slot.
This is the 17th single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :
