39 Thunder – Play That Funky Music * !!!
Wild Cherry made No.7 in 1976 with the original, and it was followed up byVanilla Ice in 1991 (No.10), but this blisteringly loud version only managesa lowly No.39. Then again, it hasn’t received any airplay where I’ve beenlistening, which is a shame as it’s fantastic.
11 Diva International – Diva :O ===
Time was when it was just homosexuals behaving in a camp fashion that wasall the rage (see Christopher Biggins, Dale Winton) for appearing on TV,and now it’s transexuals as this year’s Eurovision winner turns out a big pileof crap for a single.
9 Karen Ramirez – Looking For Love *
In June 1993, Everything But The Girl released a beautiful ballad as a singlewhich made only No.72 and dropped out of the Top 75 the following week, andonly found chart success afterwards when they turned traitor on their musicand released only dance remixes for singles, starting with “Missing” whichmade No. 3 in October 95, bettering the much-better original’s position ofNo.69 fourteen months beforehand.
Hence, I thought this was EBTG again, but it isn’t. Karen Ramirez is a newcomerto the UK charts and this one is rather good, but still not a patch on theoriginal.

Lost in space? More like lost out of favour, as they’ve had to cancel theFinsbury Park gig after selling just one thousand of the 30,000 tickets! Doh!

The first one was good, but this reworking doesn’t quite work as well,particularly with the start’s high-pitched warbling of “We still believe”,down to the homage paid to two of the England team who have been ditched since,namely Gazza and Stuart Pearce.

Following “She’s A Star” (No.9, Feb 97) and “Tomorrow” (No.12, May 97),James‘ best song of last year, “Waltzing Song”, made No.23 in July.
Since then, their greatest hits album was released, the first new songsfrom it being the excellent “Destiny Calling” (No.17, Mar 98) and the evenbetter “Runaground” (No.29, June 98), making for an excellent compilationalbum, save for “Come Home” and “Sit Down” which I’ve tired of now.
