Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

    14 Hepburn – Bugs

4-piece girlie pop band who had a No.8 hit in May with “I Quit”, return foranother stab at the charts. It’ll get your foot tapping, but you’ll soon stopif you’re over 19 and realise that it’s music for kids 🙂

    5 Texas – Summer Son *

Another track from “The Hush”, and a rather good energetic one that’s well worthblasting out of the car radio, but the promo video has been banned from mostchannels for screening pre-7pm, before which time they can only play a liveversion.

The ‘saucy’ promo though is nothing of the sort – just Sharleen writhing abouton a bed with a bloke – the sort of thing that passionate teenagers, a largepart of their audience, will be getting up to anyway, so I don’t see the bigdeal.

1 Geri Halliwell – Mi Chico Latino *1st Week at No.1*

The second single from her “Schizophonic” album and not a bad track, but nothingto shout about. The summer sun beats down as Geri parades her ginger pubes, nearly, in a bikini while writhing about on a boat.

The success of this song was nearly scuppered though, earlier in the week, when Woolworths, who account for a quarter of singles sales, realised that theircopies of CD single no.2 were mis-labelled CD1, despite containing the correctcontent of CD2. So, in their infinite wisdom, rather than stick a poster upabout it, they took all the copies off the shelves, awaiting replacements. D’oh!

This is the 23rd single to go straight in at No.1.

  • 1. Fatboy Slim – Praise You
  • 2. 911 – A Little Bit More
  • 3. Offspring – Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)

    Dominator’s Top 50 of 1998

    35. Matthew Marsden – The Heart’s Lone Desire

Previously known as car mechanic Chris in ITV’s “Coronation Street”, anothersoap star set his sights on a chart assault. Since he was a musician beforebecoming an actor, this probably explains why this ballad is very good indeedand it made No.13 in July last year.

It was followed up with a rather average cover of Hall & Oates’ “She’s Gone”(No.24, Nov 98), but the third single, “Walk My Way”, originally scheduledfor February 22nd this year, was put back further and further until the recordlabel dropped him. Whether he continues to sing, or returns to the Street, has yet to be seen.

    The end bit :

Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me atCharts Request to tell me.

    Bye for now,

    Dominator
