[Album Charts] [New Albums Release Info]
In the last chart of 1999, I posted my Top 50 singles of the year, pickingout the Top 10 first. During 2000, I’ll be going through the list one by onestarting with the Top 10 in alphabetical order.
This week : 11 new entries, 1 climbers, 2 non-movers & 26 downers.CHART TIME !
(* – my current favourites)
(!!! – Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) – Repeat., ie. a re-release)
A brief analysis on the current chart situation…
11 new entries :
“I wasn’t sure if this had been released this week since a couple ofshops I tried to find it in didn’t have it, including Woolies who said they’dhad no copies of any singles in all week.
It’s a slow, sombre effort which puts the PSB rightfully back in the Top 10,and was performed at their concerts with only a guitar for musicalaccompaniment. It’s brilliant and I’ll have to get both CD singles releasedsometime this week.”
Last week I found only one shop that stocked them and I passed as they werefull price at 4quid each and for this release there were 3 of them. I lookedin Woolies, who had written the PSBs off by not including them at all intheir new Top 50 which includes the past week’s new releases, so I doubtif they’ve stocked them at all. I didn’t bother looking in Our Price or HMVas that’s no place for cheap anything.
If anyone knows where these can be bought for 3quid apiece or less, or wantsto sell their own, let me know. I’d like to get all three in one go thoughif possible.
32 The Brand New Heavies – Apparently NothingThe number of copies it sold, obviously, for this cover version ofthe Young Disciples track 20 Super Furry Animals – Do or DieA 2-minute burst of guitar frenzy, but I’m surprised they didn’t re-release”Smile”, since it’s been featured in the ads for yet another load ofold internet-bank… 1 (NEW) Britney Spears – Born to Make You Happy *1st Week at No.1*Another new single, but it’s oh so dull and predictable. Get some new tunesBritney. This single is the 3rd in a row to go straight in at No.1.

Dominator’s Top 50 of 1999
4. James – I Know What I’m Here ForMaking No.22 in July last year, this was a different departure for James, they verge on dance-music territory, with a song that also sounds likesomething from the early 80’s given the way the vocals are used. A great promovideo too so, again, I’m surprised this didn’t do so well.
The single was followed up by Just Like Fred Astaire (No.17, Oct 99)and We’re Going to Miss You (No.48, Dec 99).
The end bit :
Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me.
Bye for now,
