Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

Sting: Stolen Car
[Sacred Love]

60 Sting – Stolen Car

A nicely stylish track from Sting, similar in stature to one of his earlier tracks,”Shape Of My Heart”. If only it was to get the media recognition it deserves, evenif it does sound more like an album-only track.

Alas, there’s also a remix version in which the whole thing turns to shit, courtesyof someone could Twista. Why does Sting allow this rape of his songs to continue?

Zero 7: Somersault
[When It Falls]

56 Zero 7 – Somersault

Dammit. Once again, Zero 7 have created a masterpiece that makes me feel like I’vedied and gone to heaven. An outstanding, dreamy, ambient piece that runs for nearlyseven minutes.

Can someone please tell me where good music like this goes and hides away when Zero 7aren’t making it?

41 Millwall FC – Oh Millwall

…are a bunch of thugs?

Muse: Sing For Absolution
[Absolution]

16 Muse – Sing for Absolution

A powerhouse track that seems like it’ll hit the right mark, but turns out tofail in comparison with previous smashes like Muscle Museum & Plug In Baby.

It also has an initially impressive video that runs out of steam as it goes on. Somethingabout the band escaping on a spaceship away from a post-apocalyptic Earth except… the endup back there again. Hey ho.

The Corrs: Summer Sunshine
[Borrowed Heaven]

6 The Corrs – Summer Sunshine

Ever since they first used Shania Twain’s husband as their producer, they forgottheir roots and went as bland as could possibly be. This track is no exception.

The 411: On My Knees

4 The 411 – On My Knees

A dull pseudo-R&B track that uses a classical piece of music as a backdrop, thename of which escapes me but it doesn’t really matter because too many chart singlesdo this too often. Avoid.

Frankee: FURB
(Fuck You Right Back)
[Good, Bad & Ugly]

1 Frankee – FURB (Fuck You Right Back) :O === *2nd Week at No.1*

Following on from her apparent ex Eamon’s f-word-full single, we now have more of the same with exactlythe same backing music. Given her blanked-out performance on CD:UK this week, who’s going to be next at the top- Norman Collier?

This is the 4th new single to go straight in at No.1 in a row:

  • 1. Usher – Yeah!
  • 2. McFly – Five Colours in Her Hair
  • 3. Eamon – Fuck It
  • 4. Frankee – FURB (Fuck You Right Back)
