Network is proud to announce the release of AGONY – THE COMPLETE THIRD SERIES (12) on 17th August 2009, RRP £12.99. This witty BAFTA-nominated sitcom features Maureen Lipman (The Pianist) as sassy “agony aunt” Jane Lucas, who finds that while dishing out advice to strangers is simple enough, sorting out one’s own personal life can prove a lot more complicated. Lipman earned a BAFTA nomination for the role and her wry yet warm comic delivery is sure to elicit both laughs and sympathy in what is a refreshingly bittersweet, nuanced show.

In this third series, Jane is reconciled finally with her husband, and they are expecting their first baby. This series also features Miranda Richardson as a guest star in one of her early roles. AGONY originally aired on ITV from 1979 to 1981 yet still comes across as a highly intelligent and progressive show; no wonder then that it has been retrospectively likened to the popular 1990s American sitcom Frasier.

The DVD is released on August 17th, it runs for 175 mins and retails for £12.99 on DVD,but is currently on Amazon at the link above for £7.98.

Network DVD releases the third series of the wildly popular sitcom, SURGICAL SPIRIT – THE COMPLETE THIRD SERIES (PG), available to buy on DVD on 17th August 2009, RRP £12.99.

Consultant surgeon Sheila Sabatini rules her operating theatre with a sharp tongue and a withering sense of humour. Her dedication and determination to succeed in a male-dominated world make her a force to be reckoned with, and her colleagues at the Gillies Hospital have learned the hard way not to mess with her!

Sheila’s intimidating manner may hide a soft centre, but only those who dare to get close enough discover that; they include administrator and best friend, Joyce, and anaesthetist Dr Haslam, a man brave enough to pursue a romantic relationship with the spiky Mrs Sabatini…

Nicola McAuliffe gives a memorable performance as Sheila Sabatini, with Duncan Preston starring alongside her as Jonathan Haslam. Surgical Spirit was a huge success with the viewing public, running for seven series between 1989 and 1995. This complete third series (which also features an early appearance from Catherine Tate) was originally screened in 1991.

Bill Maynard stars in THE GAFFER – THE COMPLETE FIRST SERIES (PG), released by Network DVD on 17th August 2009, RRP £12.99.

Fred Moffatt (Bill Maynard – Oh No, it’s Selwyn Froggitt!, Heartbeat) is a tight-fisted yet quick-thinking director of a small light-engineering firm, in this cleverly scripted, bittersweet sitcom.

The recession is biting, and the Gaffer finds himself under siege from the taxman, his creditors, his bank manager… and just about everyone else. He sometimes resorts to extreme measures to keep his head above water, and is permanently at odds with militant shop steward Harry (Russell Hunter – Callan). But glamorous secretary Betty (Pat Ashton) is always around to lighten the mood – even if she rarely succeeds in getting Harry and Fred to see eye-to-eye…

Presented here is the entire first series of this hugely popular sitcom from Yorkshire Television, originally screened in 1981.

The DVD is released on August 17th, it runs for 150 mins and retails for £12.99 on DVD,but is currently on Amazon at the link above for £7.98.

DVD:

Arthur Lowe stars in Network DVD’s release of Coronation Street spin-off, PARDON THE EXPRESSION – THE COMPLETE SECOND SERIES (Cert TBC), released on 3rd August 2009, RRP £34.99 as a 4-disc set.

It follows the mixed fortunes of former Weatherfield boutique owner Leonard Swindley (Arthur Lowe – Dad’s Army). In his position as assistant manager at a Dobson and Hawks chain store, the punctilious but ambitious Mr Swindley seizes every opportunity that might afford him the chance to scale the social heights, arranging everything from intimate dinner parties to glittering charity galas in the pursuit of promotion…

Featuring scripts from an award-winning team that included Coronation Street contributors Harry Driver and Vince Powell, PARDON THE EXPRESSION helped to define the type of comic role for which BAFTA winner Arthur Lowe would be most fondly remembered: that of the pompous, quietly floundering buffoon. Betty Driver – soon to be installed behind the bar of the Rover’s Return – stars as canteen manageress Mrs. Edgeley, and Robert Dorning joins the cast as Swindley’s boss Walter Hunt; Dad’s Army favourites John Le Mesurier and John Laurie and Coronation Street stars Julie Goodyear and Amanda Barrie are also among the famous faces appearing in this second series, originally screened in 1966.

The DVD is released on August 24th, it runs for 600 mins and retails for £34.99 on DVD,but is currently on Amazon at the link above for £24.98.
