Icon Home Entertainment is pleased to announce the June 29th DVD and Blu-ray release of the outstanding action-packed sci-fi thriller “PUSH” starring Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) and Academy Award Nominee® Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond).
Set in a world of psychic espionage and intrigue where the gift to move objects using only the mind, see into the future, create new realities and kill without ever touching the victim, can turn a person into a lethal weapon – or target. In Push, a young man and a teenage girl with extraordinary psychic abilities take on a corrupt government agency littered with paranormal gangsters in a battle they can win only if they can change the future.
Push’s DVD and Blu-ray editions feature 4 deleted scenes, ‘The Science behind the fiction’ making of featurette and Audio Commentary from Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning and Paul Mcguigan.
Scotsman Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Gangster No.1) directs this high-energy sci-fi thriller set in Hong Kong. A sinister government agency known as “The Division” is rounding up psychics for experiments designed to boost their powers and assemble the most commanding army the world has ever seen. Unfortunately, almost no one has ever survived these trials. Nick Gant (Chris Evans), a second generation telekinetic or “mover” has been in hiding since the Division murdered his father more than a decade earlier. Since then, Gant has lived anonymously in a densely populated Hong Kong.
Nick is forced out of hiding when Cassie Holmes (Dakota Fanning), a 13-year-old clairvoyant, or “watcher”, seeks his help in locating a briefcase that she claims holds $6 million dollars. To find it, they will also have to find Kira (Camilla Belle), an escaped “pusher” who is the only person ever to survive the Division’s experiments. Pushers possess the most dangerous of all psychic powers: the ability to influence others’ actions by implanting thoughts into their minds. Cassie’s presence soon attracts the attention of the Division’s henchmen, forcing Nick and Cassie to flee for their lives.
With the help of a team of expatriates armed with an array of special abilities, the unlikely pair carves a path through the city’s darkest corners, trying to stay one step ahead of the authorities in search of Kira.
With Cassie’s visions guiding them, the pair move closer to achieving their goal, but find themselves competing with a family of deadly psychics for a suitcase. Even more dangerous is Division Agent Henry Carver (Djimon Hounsou), a powerful pusher who needs both the contents of the case and Kira in order to create an unstoppable paranormal militia. Outgunned and out numbered, Nick, Cassie and Kira and their allies must figure out a way to outsmart Carver if they are to prevent him from carrying out his treacherous plan.
Push’s psychics are a bit closer to superheroes, albeit without the costumes: ‘sniffers’ can see the recent past by smelling an object, ‘shadows’ can keep people and objects hidden, ‘shifters’ can temporarily change the appearance of an object, and so on. The special effects in the fight scenes featuring Agent Victor Budarin (Neil Jackson), who can shield himself from bullets and send people flying across the room with a whisk of his hand, are undeniably surreal and breathtaking.
The exotic city of Hong Kong provides the outstanding setting of the film, all of which makes for a frenetic, fast-paced open canvass for electrifying special effects and non-stop thrills and spills.
